by $4 trillion. this is specifics that are coming out of our ears specifics. mitt romney -- this debate and the issue you raised is more about how they see the country and mitt romney has made clear and i was watching that interview with absolute disbelief as i'm sure many americans were that he thinks people making $50,000 a year, that's a fire fighter, a nurse, a teacher, those people should pay 1 a. higher rate than people making millions. and this is a real difference between their views of the world, that i views of country and what their priorities are and how their prities will impact their plans. and that's a central debate in this election over the next 40 something days. >> i have to ask you, though, because you've been getting a lot of krcritics about the fact that the president would sit with the ladies "the view" and not take any one-on-ones. and nothing wrong with the interview with helthem, it's ju the timing. why not wait and instead of opening up such a vulnerable attack from the right. >> the most important thing here is that the president speaks to these world leaders

to predictions -- i think this will come up in the debate. not because mitt romney will bring it up, but because he will be asked about it by one of the moderators. but the romney campaign has shown no signs of pulling back on this. i got a mail -- i live in virginia -- i got a mail at my house for my daughter, who registered to vote a week ago. it repeated all the lines in the welfare at. i think the romney campaign has found a message that it once to -- wants to keep hitting. i think that will come up in the debate. we will hear from obama. initially, we saw this in the polls, this has resonated, their traditional scare seniors about medicare tactics. that has been working really well. so i think obama will bring that up. one thing we will hear is the phrase that romney would end medicare's guarantee, which is a phrase the democrats have liked to use recently. we have raided that half-true for two reasons. one, it is not like it really has a guarantee now. congress can change the medicare benefits any time it wants to. it frequently has. now, romney would change the structure in which people w

than that -- more of that in the debates. president obama and governor romney have different views about where to take this country internationally. host: where you expecting from the speech by the iranian leader today? guest: mach mod ahmadinejad -- mahmoud ahmadinejad is a fool. er.is a israel pahat denies the holocaust. he lost most of his power. he is not the most significant leader in iran. i would expect a lot of lies about the united states. iran has very low support. they have support from hezbollah and the syrian government. most countries want nothing to do with the iranians. they have been violating their commitments on their nuclear enrichment programs. it is a program on the defensive. president obama has been doing a good job of pushing the iranians into a corner and we should continue that policy matter who wins the election and prevent them from getting a nuclear weapon. host: susan from new york. caller: good morning. their comments are very great. i have two questions, one regarding libya. one is regarding libya. the you think the al qaeda attacks and on the guy t

to be an issue in the debates between governor romney and president obama. it is such an important issue. host: via twitter, mr. ambassador -- what do you think? guest: i am not sure whether he is referring to regime change in iraq or iran. it is very difficult for the united states to go in and plan to topple the regime of another country. we did so successfully in march 2003. our military was brilliant in their offensive into iraq and update his/saddam hussein. but then we found out that we had tuesday -- and dislodge saddam hussein. but then we found out we had to stay, and everybody knows the tragic story of what happened. the united states needs to be the strongest country in the world. at the same time, we need to know the value of restraint. we cannot solve everybody's problem. we cannot over use and ask the military to do too much. we cannot fight our way through every problem. president obama -- this is what president obama has been talking about, and i hope this comes up in the debates. we need to return to diplomacy. backed by force, of course, and a strong military but normally, bu

much debate between the republican candidate mitt romney and president obama -- we will open up the debate and expand the debate as we so often do on "democracy now, "to a third party candidates. we will be in denver, to and we will have third-party candidates responding to the same questions being put to mitt romney and president obama. we will broadcast democracy now.org and on radio as well. you raised the issue of the critical vote as we traveled through pennsylvania. a whole issue of voter suppression and having been in charlotte, a great civil-rights city, where the students from the historical black college in 1960 set up a lunch counter in to grant them and yet, what do we see today? state after state, efforts to suppress voting rights instead of expanding them. not enough people vote in this country. in pennsylvania, there is legislation now on the books that could disenfranchise between 750,000-1 million people. president obama won by 600,000 boats in pennsylvania last time. this really does determine the election. i don't care who you are for. this will determine the

point of the debate. it's entirely possible that romney will run as any republican challenger ever. pulling on the whites bush '88 come all 56 to 61% of whites range. romani could come right in that range and lose, and i think that is down to -- it should precipitate a conversation in the party. this is the last time anyone will try to do this that is entirely on the back. it's unrealistic when 62 or 63, but the existing collision is so dependent on the community that are uneasy with the change that they are just paralyzed in the intellectual understanding the have to reach out to the hispanics and difficulty they are fighting it in degrees note here at the end. the republican platform in addition to everything else it says about immigration, so any straight defeat does state that provides should be barred from all federal higher education money which means under the republican platform every kid in texas couldn't get a pell grant. so, that is sort of what they are grappling with, versus if you talk to karl rove awarded gillespie and the understanding that we have ways to reach out

with the audience. will it resonate with voters? i'm sure that's on governor romney's mind, too. >> sure. well, you know, one of the things i think you are going to see him doing today is trying to pivot this debate about foreign policy back to jobs and trade and opportunity. i think he will make the argument that when we -- when our aid program should be built towards developing free market partners around the world, helping -- nations and embrace the free market and embrace trade. that in the long run helps american prosperity and creates jobs here at home. the man who is hosting him, president clinton, when he came into office, one of the first things bill clinton did was join with republicans to pass the north american free trade agreement over the objections of democrats. he worked with -- got a majority of republicans and minority of democrats in a coal toygs pass that p president obama has not passed a single free trade agreement of his own making since coming into office. i think you will see a subtle distinction between drawn. >> what do you mean of his own making? because he has -- trade
